Grant Patterson

founder and ceo

Grant founded Providence in 2000 – one of the first truly independent investment advisory firms in Australia. Grant has over 30 years of experience in investment markets. He has held senior positions such as a Director of ABN Amro, and Head of Retail Broking, Senior Institutional Dealer, Head of the Sydney Institutional Dealing Desk, as well as Head of Corporate Liaison. In addition, Grant is an Ambassador of ASX Refinitiv Charity Foundation, Ambassador for The Duke of Edinburgh Award and Working Group member The REACH Foundation NSW.

Michael Ogg

Michael Ogg

Director, Senior Investment Advisor

Michael has over 30 years of experience in investment. He started his career in London in 1993, and held a position of Investment Analyst and Trainee Fund Manager with JP Morgan Investment Management. In Australia, Michael worked for AMP Asset Management holding senior roles in institutional equities, and for Deutsche Bank as a Client Advisor in private banking.

James Smith

Head of Melbourne, Senior Investment Advisor

James has over 25 years of investment market experience. Prior to joining Providence in 2015, he held the position of Deputy Head of Domestic Sales at CIMB Securities (Australia) and was a member of the CIMB Equities (Australia) Management Committee. He has also held positions as Director -Sales at RBS, ABN AMRO and Sales at Deutsche Bank. James was responsible for Melbourne Sales/Account management in his previous roles over the 15 years and between 2012-2015,  was also responsible for New Zealand. James also sits on the Investment Committee at Benetas as an external adviser.

Tony Michaels

Tony Michaels

Principal and Director

Tony Michaels has more than 25 years experience in financial planning and investment advisory. Prior to joining Providence, he was Director and Head of Financial Planning at Hood Sweeney. Tony has a Bachelor of Science from Flinders University, and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Financial Investment. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Financial Services Institute of Australia.

Leeza Yilmaz

Operations Manager

Leeza joined Providence in 2001 and has  more than 30 years of experience. She started her career with Meares and Philips in 1986. She then worked for ABN Amro holding such management roles as Accounts Clerk, Funding Desk and Private Client Account Manager. She is responsible for the implementation of clients’ portfolios, liaison with clients and their accountants to provide tax information, and corporate communication compliance oversight.

Marc Wait

Marc Wait

Head of Investment Strategy

Marc has over 25 years of investment experience across multiple asset classes in London, Abu Dhabi, and Sydney. He began his career in Sydney with HSBC and Citigroup Global Asset Management (CGAM) managing Fixed Income, Currency, and Money Market portfolios. Marc moved to London in 1999 with CGAM as a Portfolio Manager managing fixed income and asset allocation funds. At Fidelity International in London, Marc was the Group Leader, Short Dated Bonds, chaired the firm’s Fixed Income Asset Allocation meetings and contributed to the firm’s asset allocation process. Marc moved to Abu Dhabi to become the Head of Treasury at the Emirates’ Sovereign Wealth Fund, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). The Treasurer role involved directly running portfolios, manager selection, involvement across all the asset classes and being a member of ADIA’s Chief Investment Officers’ forum. Marc is the Head of Investment Strategy for Providence and has been a member of the Investment Committee since 2019. Marc has a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (Hons) from the University of Sydney, is a CFA, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, and a GAICD.

Carlo Queddeng

Head of Managed Funds

Carlo joined Providence in 2006. He is responsible for managed funds research, maintaining the approved products list, trade implementation and client portfolio analysis.  Carlo has a double degree Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Computing from the University of Technology Sydney, majoring in Finance and IT Management and has completed a Diploma of Financial Planning and certified in the FASEA Financial Standards Exam.

Justine Morton

Senior Investment Advisor

Justine has 25+ years of investment and finance experience both in Australia and internationally.  A significant part of Justine’s career has been spent trading for and researching hedge fund strategies. In London she worked with Credit Suisse, Lehman Brothers and the Cargill family.  Upon returning to Australia, she founded Finsbury Capital Advisers, raising capital for some of the world’s largest hedge fund managers.  As a Senior Investment Adviser with Providence Justine works closely with a range of wealthy family and not for profit clients, ensuring that their investment portfolios reflect their unique circumstances, values and purpose.  In keeping with the team structure at Providence, Justine is an active member of the investment committee and contributes to due diligence on managers in alternative strategies.  A strong believer in responsible investing, commercially sensible ESG processes and good governance, Justine developed the current ESG strategy for Providence and is a member of the AICD and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.

Thyra has graduate qualifications in finance and investments and brings to Providence more than 13 years’ experience in wealth management that includes positions at top tier professional service firms Prescott Securities, Perks Wealth Management and Hood Sweeny Securities.

Guy Amon

Executive Financial Planner

Guy has over 26 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of NSW. He holds the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner practitioner designation from the Financial Planning Association of Australia and a Diploma in Financial Planning from Deakin University.

Melissa De Corrado

CLIENT RELATIONS MANAGER

Melissa has worked for Providence since 2006. She is responsible for providing corporate administration management, co-ordinating all client activities and communications, managing settlements, and dealing with client enquiries and share registries.

David Watts

David Watts

Research Analyst

David joined providence in 2022 and is responsible for conducting investment research and financial modelling for Providence’s Australian equity holdings. David has a Bachelor of Finance (Capital Markets & Economics) from the Australian National University and is a CFA. Prior to joining Providence David worked as an Investment Associate at Koda Capital and was a Management Consultant within PwC’s financial consulting practice.

Ben Sullivan

Associate investment advisor

Ben joined Providence in 2020. He is responsible for supporting direct property and managed funds research, implementing trades, and assisting Senior Advisors. He works closely with a range of wealthy families and non-for-profit clients, ensuring that their investment portfolios reflect their unique circumstances, values, and purposes. Ben holds a double degree from the University of New South Wales: a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Finance and Economics. He is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.

Debbie has over 25 years of experience within the investment industry. She has worked for Providence since the founding of the firm. Her roles include both Human Resources Manager, as well as Head of the Accounting Department.

Alma Marshall

Personal Assistant

Alma joined Providence in 2014 as Grant Patterson‘s Personal Assistant. She brings with her vast experience in similar roles. Alma plays an important part of the Support Team, ensuring that Providence’s high standards of client service and responsiveness continue to be met.

Preeti joined the Providence team in 2018 as Administration Co-Ordinator. Preeti ensures the seamless operation of the office, supporting the Administration Manager and Operations Manager.

Pearly has over 20 years of experience in operations, marketing, and event management. Her expertise lies in strategic planning, execution, and business development. Her ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages allows her to connect with a diverse range of clients, fostering strong relationships. She will be supporting the SA team with the ultimate goal of continuing to deliver value and growth for their clients and the business.

Michaella joined the Providence team in 2023 as Administration Assistant. Michaella has several years of experience in similar roles in the not-for-profit, retail, and education sectors.

Olivia Simpkins

Reception/Administration Assistant
Olivia joined the Providence team in November 2022 and is responsible for reception duties and providing support for the administration team. Prior to joining Providence Olivia has worked as a Legal Secretary and Electoral Officer.

Stacey Murray

Marketing Coordinator

Stacey joined the Providence team in January 2019 as Receptionist and Administration Assistant, moving into her current role in 2021.
